Afraid of the dentist: how implants and cleanings go

What changes at an appointment when the patient is afraid: pace, anaesthesia, explaining every step. A Tursunov Clinic patient's experience (2GIS review, 27.10.2025); the consultation is free.

Key points

  • Fear of the dentist is the most common reason to postpone treatment, and postponing is exactly what turns a filling into a crown and a crown into an implant.
  • For an anxious patient it is the format that changes, not the treatment: a slower pace, more explanation, and anaesthesia discussed before, not during.
  • The first consultation at Tursunov Clinic is only an examination, an X-ray and a conversation; nothing is done without your consent.
  • One of the clinic's reviews on 2GIS was written by a patient who says outright that she is afraid of dentists — and who keeps coming back for cleanings.

Where the fear comes from and why it matters

Most anxious patients are not afraid of pain as such but of three things: the unknown ("what is about to happen?"), losing control ("I can't stop it") and past experience. The first two are solved by talking, the third by time and a first calm visit.

For the clinic your fear is working information. It affects where treatment starts, how much is done in one visit and how sensations are explained. So the only thing to do before the appointment is to mention the fear to the receptionist when booking and to the doctor at the start of the consultation.

What happens at the first visit

The consultation at Tursunov Clinic is free and does not include treatment. The doctor examines you, takes an X-ray if needed, explains what they see and offers options. You leave with a plan, not a filling. For an anxious patient this matters: there is a pause between the decision and the procedure.

If the examination shows that an implant is needed, the doctor names the stages and tells you what you will feel at each one. The standard is local anaesthesia: during implant placement you feel pressure, not pain. The clinic does not offer sedation or general anaesthesia: if a long visit feels frightening, the doctor splits treatment into several short ones.

Patients' experience at the clinic

In a 2GIS review dated 27 October 2025 a patient writes that she had an implant placed and keeps coming for cleanings; she notes separately that she is afraid of dentists, that the approach to patients here suited her, that in her words the treatment was painless, and that she plans to have her caries treated at the same clinic. That is her experience and it promises nothing to anyone else — but it shows that anxiety does not prevent going through both the surgical and the preventive stage.

There is a similar story among the cases: a patient who admitted he had been afraid of treatment went through wisdom tooth removal, microscope treatment and an implant over several visits — and, in his words, it all went more calmly than he expected. The case was published on 1 September 2025 with the patient's consent.

Where to start if you are afraid

Start with a cleaning, not surgery. A professional cleaning (25,000 ₸) is the most predictable visit: ultrasound and Air Flow, no anaesthesia, 40–60 minutes. You see the room, the doctor and your own reaction; the doctor sees the state of your gums and teeth. After that, the conversation about implants is with someone you already know.

If an implant is needed after all, the clinic currently offers the Izen implant system at 80,000 ₸ instead of 120,000; the crown and abutment are priced separately, and a written estimate is given after the X-ray.

Limitation

Sensations and tolerance of treatment are individual. The review and the case describe specific people's experience and are not a promise of results. Indications for implants are determined by the doctor after an examination and an X-ray.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask to stop during treatment?

Yes. Agree on a signal (a raised hand) before you start — the doctor will pause.

Do you place implants "while asleep"?

No, the clinic does not offer sedation or general anaesthesia. All procedures are done under local anaesthesia; if you are afraid, the work is split into several visits.

What should I bring?

X-rays and treatment plans from other clinics, a list of medications. And say honestly that you are afraid — that changes the appointment more than anything else.

How much is the first visit?

The consultation is free. A 3D scan (CBCT), if needed, is 11,000 ₸ per the price list.
