Your first wisdom tooth removal: how it goes and what follows

A first extraction after 30: why it is usually a wisdom tooth, how the visit goes, what you feel once the anaesthetic wears off and when to call. A Tursunov Clinic patient's experience (2GIS, 21.10.2025). Extraction from 20,000 ₸, wisdom tooth 40,000 ₸.

Key points

  • A wisdom tooth is the most common "first extracted tooth" in adults: it erupts last, often only partly and often in the wrong position.
  • The moment of extraction is not felt under anaesthesia; the main discomfort is the first 2–3 days afterwards.
  • A simple extraction at Tursunov Clinic is from 20,000 ₸, a wisdom tooth 40,000 ₸; "complex" is determined by the X-ray, not by how it feels.
  • One of the clinic's reviews is from a patient who had his first tooth extracted at 33.

Why it is usually a wisdom tooth

Third molars erupt at 18–25, when the jaw has no room left. Hence their typical problems: tilting, partial eruption under a gum "hood", decay the toothbrush cannot reach, pressure on the neighbouring second molar. Many adults see an oral surgeon for the first time because of a wisdom tooth — for the previous thirty years there was nothing to extract.

Whether to extract is decided from the X-ray: root position, proximity to the lower jaw nerve and the maxillary sinus, the state of the neighbouring tooth. That is the only way to know in advance whether the extraction will be simple or complex — and price, duration and recovery all depend on it.

How the extraction goes

First a consultation and an X-ray: the consultation is free, a 3D scan (CBCT) is 11,000 ₸ per the price list. Then local anaesthesia — 5–10 minutes until fully numb; during the extraction you feel pressure, not pain.

A simple extraction takes minutes. A complex one — an impacted or tilted tooth — takes longer, sometimes with the tooth sectioned into parts. At the end you get instructions: what you can eat, how to leave the socket alone, when to come for a check-up. You can ask for a pause during the visit — agree on a signal beforehand.

A clinic patient's experience

In a 2GIS review dated 21 October 2025 (written in Kazakh) a patient says that at 33 he had a tooth extracted for the first time in his life — a wisdom tooth — that he did not notice the extraction itself, and that once the anaesthetic wore off there was no pain. He thanks the clinic's management and staff. That is one person's experience with one tooth; for another patient with difficult root positions recovery may be more noticeable — which is exactly why what is normal and what is not is described below.

Among the cases there is the story of a patient for whom wisdom tooth removal was the first of three treatment stages he had been postponing out of fear (published 01.09.2025).

What is normal after extraction and what is a reason to call

Normal: numbness for 2–4 hours, an aching pain on the first day that ordinary painkillers relieve, slight cheek swelling on days 2–3, a faint taste of blood.

Call the clinic if pain increases on day 3–4, swelling grows after the third day, you develop a fever, or bleeding does not stop after an hour of pressing on a gauze pad. The number and opening hours are on the contacts page; the clinic is open Mon–Fri 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 11:00–18:00.

How much it costs

Per the price list: a simple extraction from 20,000 ₸, complex 35,000 ₸, wisdom tooth removal 40,000 ₸, a partially impacted wisdom tooth 50,000 ₸, an impacted one 60,000 ₸. Which line is yours is visible on the X-ray; the total is given after the examination. Instalments are available: Kaspi Red 0-0-24 and Halyk 0-0-12.

Sensations after extraction depend on the tooth's position and the extent of the procedure. The review and the case describe specific patients' experience and do not guarantee the same course for others.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be extracted on the day I come in?

Often yes, if the X-ray shows no difficult position and there is no acute inflammation. The doctor decides on the spot.

Do all four need to come out?

No. Only those that cause problems, hurt or are destroyed are removed. A healthy, correctly positioned wisdom tooth is left alone.

Can I work afterwards?

Usually yes — the next day, without heavy physical exertion.

Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?

Under local anaesthesia the extraction itself is not felt — only pressure. The discomfort comes in the first days afterwards, and ordinary painkillers handle it.
